What power station setup gets a household through a hurricane?
Hurricane outages last days, sometimes weeks, so no battery alone is the answer. The setup that works is a 2 to 3 kWh power station, 200 to 400 W of solar panels, and a plan to cycle the fridge. That combination covers a fridge, fans, lights, Wi-Fi and phones indefinitely in the sunny weather that usually follows a storm.
Why not just buy the biggest battery
A EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 holds 4,096 Wh. Running a fridge nonstop plus a couple of fans, that is about 1.2 days, then it is a very heavy box. Panels are what turn a two-day battery into a two-week one, and after a hurricane the sun is usually out.
The daily budget with solar
Fridge cycled 12 hours (540 Wh), two box fans 8 hours (1,200 Wh), Wi-Fi all day (360 Wh), lights and phones (270 Wh): about 2,370 Wh a day. Two 200 W panels in Gulf Coast sun generate 1,500 to 2,000 Wh a day, which covers it. The battery only has to bridge the night, so 2 kWh is enough.
Buy before June

- Two 200 W folding panels from the same brand so the connectors match.
- A plug-in timer for the fridge and a battery-powered thermometer for the freezer.
- Charge to 100% when a storm is named; most units go from empty to full in about an hour from the wall.
