How long will a power station keep my Wi-Fi up?

A home router plus cable or fiber modem draws about 15 W, so a 499 Wh unit keeps the internet up for roughly 1.2 days and a 1 kWh unit for about 2.4 days. Your internet provider's equipment up the street also needs power, so it may drop before your battery does.

Runtimes by size

UnitBatteryRouter and modem runtimePrice when checked
EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus286 Wh16 hours$279
Goal Zero Yeti 500499 Wh1.2 days$500
Goal Zero Yeti 700677 Wh1.6 days$700
Bluetti Elite 100 V21,024 Wh2.4 days$499
EcoFlow DELTA 31,024 Wh2.4 days$599

Notice the price column: the 1 kWh class currently costs about the same as the 500 to 700 Wh class and runs three to four times longer. Unless weight matters, skip the middle sizes.

Make it hands-off

Plug the router and modem into the power station, and the power station into the wall, with pass-through or UPS mode on. When the grid drops, the station takes over in milliseconds and your video call does not notice. Units with a true UPS mode (10 ms or faster) include the EcoFlow DELTA 3, Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 and Bluetti Elite 100 V2.

Common questions

Will my internet still work in an outage?

Fiber usually does, since it carries no power. Cable often works for a few hours on the provider’s backup batteries. DSL depends on the phone company’s equipment. A phone hotspot is the fallback.
