Can a power station run a space heater?
It can, but a 1,500 W heater drains a 1 kWh unit in about 35 minutes and a 2 kWh unit in about 1 hours. Resistance heat is the most expensive thing you can ask a battery to do. For staying warm overnight, an electric blanket at 100 W runs 9 hours on the same 1 kWh unit.

What to do instead
- Heat the person, not the room. An electric blanket or heated mattress pad uses 60 to 100 W. A heated vest uses 10 W.
- Run the furnace blower. If you have gas heat, 400 to 500 W keeps the whole house warm. See our furnace guide.
- Use the heater in short bursts. Ten minutes on high to take the chill off a small closed room costs about 250 Wh.

Common questions
Will a 1,500 W heater trip a 1,800 W power station?
Not usually, but some units derate output as the battery warms or drops below 20%. Running the heater on the 750 W setting avoids the issue and doubles runtime.
